Southgate enjoyed a ’moral’ victory against the league leaders,Uxbridge, gaining five points for the faster scoring draw, but unfortunately fellow promotion hopes, Wembley, won, so that Southgate are still in 3rd position.
It was a real rollercoaster of a game and it did not go unnoticed that the chase had taken three overs longer than the first innings. Ten more runs or three fewer overs would most likely have made the difference. Agonising stuff.
Six wins in seven games has taken Southgate to third place, just one point behind second placed Wembley, with Uxbridge probably out of reach, at the top.
Sunday saw an extravaganza of ‘golden oldies’, some perhaps now a little silver, as a Steve Rowe inspired game took place at Southgate between Jeremy Dangerfield’s XI and William Dean’s XI.
