1st XI vs South Hampstead

Southgate 1st 93 All Out
South Hampstead 1st 94-5

An unfortunate batting collapse at South Hampstead, played out to a backdrop of a considerable amount of noise from the home team, led by their captain. The umpires were forced to step in at one stage, but it made little difference.

Nonetheless, a fine opening bowling attack, and excellent catching, saw Southgate lose their three most experienced batsmen, Stevens, Edrich and Jouning, who, remarkably, top-scored with 16. New recruit, Shaun Gomes (15) played well in an aggressive style, and Phil Dunnett was batting well before being given out lbw. The collapse continued and it was left to last pair, Darragh Edwards and Ben Elder to add 17 for the last wicket, and for Southgate to finally reach a meagre total of 93. Darragh, once again proved what a technically efficient batsman he is and Ben backed him in a more defensive mode, personally facing 37 balls.

93 was always going to be a difficult figure to protect, and so it proved, despite the best efforts of Darragh and Ben Elders, who continued their batting efforts into the field. Darragh was in outstanding form, continually beating the bat and finishing with 3-40 in his nine overs, including one outstanding catch from wicket-keeper, Phil Dunnett. Ben Elders, too, bowled well and took 2-26, and Ravi Desai, in his four overs hinted what he may have done, had he been able to complete his full quota of overs.
